Bible passage: Deuteronomy 30:3-5
Prophet: Moses
Written: As early as 1400 BC
In various prophecies, such as in Deuteronomy 28:64-67, Moses the prophet warns the people of Israel that they will, if they ever turn away from God, be exiled and scattered throughout the heathen nations of the world. These things happened many times throughout history, as explained in various articles on this web site.
But in Deuteronomy 30:3-5, and elsewhere, Moses also tells the people that they will repent, restore their faith in God, and be regathered and restored to their homeland of Israel.
Moses lived about 3,400 years ago. About 2,600 years ago, Babylon conquered the land of Israel, destroyed its main city of Jerusalem, and forced into exile the people of Judah.
About 2,500 years ago, the Babylonian empire was conquered by Persians and Medes, and the Jews were freed from their captivity. Many returned to Jerusalem and rebuilt their city, their temple, and their homeland.
Here is Deuteronomy 30:3-5 (NIV):
3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes[a] and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. 4 Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back. 5 He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors.
