Bible passage: Isaiah 49:6
Prophet: Isaiah
Written: Between 701-681 BC
In Isaiah 49:6, the prophet speaks of a servant of God who would be a light to Gentiles (non-Jews) so that God's salvation could reach the ends of the earth.
Christians acknowledge that Jesus is the fulfillment of this promise. The followers of Jesus helped spread Christianity about 2,000 years ago. Christianity evangelists traveled far and wide, making Christianity the first religion to be taken to people all over the world.
Christians believe that salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life in heaven are available to anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their savior: "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved" (Romans 10:9-10, NIV translation).

Here is Isaiah 49:6:
"It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."
(New International Version translation)
