Malachi is believed by Christian scholars to be the most recent of all of the Old Testament prophets, and that his book, which is named after him in the Old Testament, was written about 2,400 years ago. Malachi gave an important prophecy about a messenger who would prepare the way for the Lord. It is believed by Christians that John the Baptist is the fulfillment of this prophecy in that he prepared the way for the Messiah, Jesus, about 2,000 years ago.
